The 2016 season was supposed to be a bounce-back year for the Minnesota Twins.

Instead, the club imploded, finishing with the worst record in the majors. Not only that, but it was the first time the Twins hit the 100-loss plateau since 1982.

If there's a saving grace for the disastrous Twins' campaign, it's that with the regular season officially over, Minnesota will have the No. 1 pick in the 2017 Draft.

This will be the third time Minnesota selects first overall in the draft. The Twins selected Joe Mauer first off the board in 2001, and in 1983, they took Tim Belcher, though he didn't sign.

This year, the Philadelphia Phillies selected dynamic high school outfielder Mickey Moniak with the No. 1 overall pick. The Phillies are in the top 10 again, selecting at No. 8.

After the Twins make their pick, they'll be followed by the Cincinnati Reds, San Diego Padres, Tampa Bay Rays, and Atlanta Braves to round out the top five.

As of the end of August, MLB.com ranks high school right-hander Hunter Greene as the top prospect in the draft. While he excels at shortstop, his fastball has topped out at 98 mph.
