Watch: Nats' Turner ties franchise record with 8 straight hits
Trea Turner's barely 70 games into his big-league career, and he's already etched his name in the record books.
The Washington Nationals center fielder continued his rise to prominence this week, recording eight hits in eight straight plate appearances against the Baltimore Orioles across Tuesday and Wednesday, joining Dmitri Young and Andre Dawson for a share of the Expos/Nationals franchise record. Young did it for the Nats in 2007, while Dawson pulled it off for Montreal in 1983.
"It's always nice to have your name associated with other great players and records. It's always nice. It's something that I'll remember," Turner told reporters after Washington's 10-8 loss. "I'm not shooting for it, but I'll take eight straight hits any day of the week. Hopefully I can get back to that or close to it one day or whatever it may be and continue to relax and have fun."
Turner went 4-4 on Tuesday, and started the same way on Wednesday before ending his streak with a strikeout in the bottom of the ninth inning. The 23-year-old is now hitting an incredible .347/.359/.592 in the month of August.
