Royals' Dillon Gee: Handed seventh loss by Marlins

Gee (5-7) pitched 5.1 innings of three-run ball against the Marlins on Wednesday, yielding five hits, striking out three and receiving the loss.

Analysis:

Gee was cruising through five innings Wednesday, allowing just one hit and no runs entering the sixth, when the trouble began. After retiring the first batter, Gee allowed four consecutive singles that plated two runs before he was removed after just 76 pitches, 50 of them for strikes. Marcell Ozuna then hit a sacrifice fly to tag Gee with his third earned run of the night. It was somewhat of an unfortunate loss for Gee, who pitched well and did not surrender a single extra-base hit while his team was shutout by fireballer Jose Fernandez. Gee now has a 4.55 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP.
