If Dwight Gooden decides to seek professional treatment for his drug addictions, his former club will foot the bill.

The New York Yankees have told Gooden's colleague and contentious friend Darryl Strawberry that they will pay for the former pitcher's drug treatment after discovering he may be struggling with addictions once again.

"The Yankees saw the story (in the Daily News on Monday), and they called me and said, 'What can we do to help?'" Strawberry told the New York Daily News' John Harper on Tuesday. "A lot of individuals have reached out to me too, but for the Yankees to show that type of support to Doc, I'm very grateful to them for that."

Strawberry and Gooden were both scheduled to make an appearance on a recent New York radio show, however, Gooden canceled last minute, citing health issues. It prompted Strawberry to go public with his concerns for his former Yankees and New York Mets teammate.

Ron Dock, Gooden's former drug counselor, confirmed the club made the offer thanks in part to Strawberry's call for help.

"I believe this is a watershed moment for Dwight. He can't hide anymore, he can't smokescreen because everybody knows," Dock told Harper. "He's getting ready to hit bottom now. His (paid) appearances are going to go away. I'm sure his drug dealer is running for the hills now, because of all the publicity."
