Robinson Cano would love to see Alex Rodriguez continue to play baseball.

The former teammate, and still good friend of Rodriguez, believes the 41-year-old still has enough in his system to reach one more milestone in his career, before calling it quits.

"I would love to see him get 700 home runs," Cano told Pete Caldera of NorthJersey.com. "So, if I was him, I would play. It’s only four, (it’s not) 20 or 25."

A-Rod was granted his release by the New York Yankees on Aug. 13 after 12 seasons with the club, which included a 2009 World Series title with Cano by his side. It's a relationship his former Yankees compadre still remains blessed to have had.

Rodriguez "is one of the guys who helped me…when I first came up,’’ Cano explained. "I appreciate everything he’s done for me."

Cano left the Yankees for a hefty 10-year, $240-million deal with the Seattle Mariners in December of 2013 and supposedly remains in close contact with Rodriguez, who is destined for an advisory role with the Yankees.

Despite Cano's belief that A-Rod should return to play, he does think he'll be a perfect fit for his new role.

"He’s got a great knowledge of the game (and) works so hard every single day, is always in shape and you never hear (him) complain," Cano said. "He always loved the game and you want a guy like that around the kids."
