Report: Tebow to hold showcase for MLB teams Aug. 30

Tim Tebow, the NFL-quarterback-turned-ESPN-analyst who unexpectedly announced his plans to pursue a professional baseball career earlier this month, is just about ready to audition for MLB clubs.

According to Jon Heyman of MLB Network, the 29-year-old - who hasn't played competitive baseball since his senior year of high school - will hold a showcase for interested teams Aug. 30 in Los Angeles. The event will be closed to the public.

More than 20 clubs will attend the workout, per ESPN's Adam Schefter, but, with the exception of those working directly with Tebow (as well as All-Star-turned-agent Gary Sheffield), there doesn't appear to be much optimism about Tebow's chances of making it to the big leagues throughout the industry.

About two weeks ago, one American League scout said it'd be "nearly impossible" for Tebow to make it after going more than a decade without seeing live pitching, while six-time All-Star Curt Schilling recently said there's "absolutely no chance" Tebow ever sets foot on an MLB diamond. When asked last week if he's intrigued by Tebow, Baltimore Orioles manager Buck Showalter offered a resounding no, adding that he's "not at all" amused, either.

Tebow, who's spent the past year working on his swing and refining his outfield skills, reportedly had a tryout with the Los Angeles Dodgers before this season, however, and the club showed interest in him afterward, according to ESPN.

Still, while he may never crack a 25-man roster, Tebow's new career path is already paying off, as the former University of Florida standout has started selling signed baseball memorabilia through TD Autographs, with baseballs going for $125 and bats going for $175, reports ESPN's Darren Rovell.
