Giants' Jeff Samardzija: Out-dueled in Sunday's loss to Mets

Samardzija fell to 10-9, although he allowed just two runs with seven strikeouts and just one walk across seven innings Sunday versus the Mets.

Analysis:

Samardzija's only mistake came on a two-run Yoennis Cespedes home run in the seventh inning, but that was enough to doom him to a defeat as Noah Syndergaard threw a gem of his own on the other side. He has now posted a neat 2.41 ERA in his last three starts since a four-start stretch in which he struggled during late July and early August, and the seven punchouts were his most since May 24. Samardzija will have the opportunity to continue his recent success Friday versus the hapless Braves.
