Upton busts out of slump with a pair of 3-run homers

Rick Osentoski / USA TODAY Sports

Less than 24 hours after Justin Upton pimped a ninth-inning double that he believed tied Friday's game, the Detroit Tigers outfielder hammered a pair of no-doubters.

After striking out in the second inning, Upton launched a three-run homer to left center field off Boston Red Sox spot starter Henry Owens for his first round-tripper since July 31.

Upton - who was benched earlier this week in an effort to help snap a 1-for-31 slump - got his second of the game off Owens three innings later, clubbing another three-run homer to left field. He finished the day 2-for-4 with a season-high six RBIs.

It was just the second multi-homer game for Upton as a Tiger since signing a six-year, $132.75-million deal this winter.
