Red Sox's David Price: Sharp in rain-shortened win
Price allowed one run on four hits without a walk while striking out four in six innings to pick up the win in Wednesday night's rain-shortened game against Baltimore.
Analysis:
Price has had several starts since the All-Star break where it seemed he was on the verge of breaking out of a season-long malaise, but something always undercut him -- poor command, too many hits, inability to put hitters away, shaky bullpen -- but it came together for him in six innings Wednesday. Following a second-inning homer, Price allowed just two singles the rest of the way. He didn't blow them away, but the Orioles managed mostly weak contact and never generated much of a threat -- only one at-bat with a man in scoring position. His 3.77 ERA since the break is nothing to brag about, but it certainly looks better than the 4.34 he had in the first half. Price will look to keep up his good work next Monday at Tampa Bay.
