The Arizona Diamondbacks will have outfielder A.J. Pollock in the lineup for the first time this season after the club activated the 28-year-old from the 60-day disabled list Friday.

Pollock, who will hit second and play center field against the Cincinnati Reds, had missed all of the 2016 season after fracturing his elbow.

The 2015 All-Star injured his elbow during an exhibition game April 1, but finally looks ready to contribute to a struggling D-Backs team currently in last place in the NL West with a 53-75 record.

"He had a good game last night in Reno, day off today, and he will be activated tomorrow," manager Chip Hale told reporters Thursday. "Everyone that I've talked to, when I saw him in his first simulated game situations off Rubby (De La Rosa), he looked great. Everybody says he's ready to go."

The former first-round pick was one of the D-Backs' best players in 2015, slashing .315/.367/.498 with 20 home runs, 76 RBIs, and 39 stolen bases. He also won a Gold Glove last season.

To make room on the active roster for Pollock, Arizona optioned outfielder Mitch Haniger to Triple-A Reno.
