The Texas Rangers purchased the contract of recently signed outfielder Carlos Gomez from Triple-A Round Rock in time for him to make his debut with the club Thursday against the Cleveland Indians.

Gomez will hit eighth and play left field for the Rangers in his first start for Texas.

The 30-year-old Gomez was signed to a minor-league deal by the Rangers on Aug. 20 after he was released by the Houston Astros.

Gomez was hitting just .210/.272/.322 with five home runs, 29 RBIs, and 13 stolen bases during the 2016 campaign prior to his release.

The two-time All-Star owns a career slash line of .256/.310/.411 with 108 home runs, 429 RBIs, and 234 stolen bases.

In a corresponding move, Texas designated outfielder Drew Stubbs for assignment.
