Astros prospect arrested on domestic violence charges

Houston Astros prospect Danry Vasquez was arrested earlier this month after allegedly striking his girlfriend inside their Double-A affiliate's stadium, according to Fares Sabawi of the Corpus Christi Caller-Times.

A surveillance camera allegedly caught Vasquez, who plays for the Corpus Christi Hooks, hitting his girlfriend and pulling her by the arm at Whataburger Field, an affidavit revealed.

The alleged incident was discovered by team officials when they were reviewing footage after a male employee reported the player allegedly threatened him in a "heated confrontation."

Vasquez was arrested on Aug. 4, according to a Corpus Christi police spokesperson, and was also placed on administrative leave by Major League Baseball; he's currently free on $10,000 bail.

In a statement released Tuesday afternoon the Astros revealed they're "aware of the incident ... and are in full cooperation with the Corpus Christi Police Department.

"We fully support the Commissioner's Office and have confidence that MLB's investigation will provide a resolution in a timely manner," the statement continued, according to Greg Rajan of the Houston Chronicle.

"The Astros are disappointed that this allegation is attached to a member of our organization - we have no further comment on this case until the investigations are complete."

Vasquez, a native of Venezuela, was acquired by Houston via trade in 2013. The 22-year-old outfielder has appeared in 60 games for Corpus Christi this season, but hasn't played since July 31.
