Look, nobody doubts that amateur baseball coaches have only the best intentions when they offer their young players hitting advice, it's just that, well, Josh Donaldson knows better.

So, during an appearance on MLB Central, the reigning American League MVP had no qualms about encouraging kids to ignore one particular piece of hitting advice as he broke down his own swing mechanics (in remarkable detail) with Mark DeRosa on Tuesday. (Note: Skip to the 2:35 mark)

"If you're 10 years old and your coach tells you to get on top of the ball, tell him no," Donaldson said. "Because in the big leagues, these things that they call ground balls are outs. They don't pay you for ground balls. They pay you for doubles. They pay you for homers."

Donaldson ain't wrong. After smashing 41 home runs with a .939 OPS last year in his first season with Toronto, the 30-year-old landed a two-year, $28.65-million extension from the Blue Jays that'll cover two of his last three arbitration seasons.
