A-Rod's biggest beefs on anniversary of Dempster game

Alex Rodriguez had one or two people that weren't always on his side.

A member of the New York Yankees for most of his big-league career, A-Rod's enemies predominantly came in the form of members of the Boston Red Sox (obviously) and even his own team.

On the anniversary of Ryan Dempster beaning A-Rod, here's a list of players Rodriguez had run-ins with over his 22-year career.

Jason Varitek

Back in 2004, A-Rod wasn't hated because he was exposed for PED use or because he cheated on his wife - neither had happened yet. He was hated because he was really good, and he was the highest-paid player in baseball. So the day after he drove in the go-ahead run for the Yankees over the Red Sox, he was drilled by a Bronson Arroyo fastball. He responded by cursing at Arroyo, which triggered the infamous glove shove from Varitek and both benches to clear.

John McDonald

With the Yankees up 7-5 over the Toronto Blue Jays in the ninth inning, Jorge Posada hit a sky-high pop up to third base. With two out, Hideki Matsui and A-Rod were running on contact, but as Rodriguez approached third baseman Howie Clark, he yelled "Ha, I got it!" Clark thought it was his shortstop, John McDonald, and let the ball drop, allowing the run to score.

Derek Jeter

Feuds between teammates isn't an uncommon thing, but when it's between two iconic teammates on the most historic team in baseball, it's entertaining. In 2000, A-Rod slashed Derek Jeter in an interview with Esquire, saying he "has never had to lead." Rodriguez knew he made a mistake, so he drove to Jeter's home to apologize. He was left in the snubhouse for a little while as he waited outside for Jeter to get home, and the rest - including their friendship - is history.

David Ortiz

In March, A-Rod and David Ortiz spoke for the first time in nearly two years. That's because after they built a relationship in the Seattle Mariners organization in the mid-1990s, Rodriguez's agent took an off-hand shot at Ortiz on ESPN Radio in 2014 when talking about steroid users in baseball, saying, "I'm not going to start naming all the other players, but some of them are God-like in Boston right now."

Ryan Dempster

After Rodriguez was busted for PED use, he was facing a 211-game suspension. Instead of accepting it, he appealed, and was allowed to play. Red Sox right-hander Ryan Dempster took things into his own hands and drilled him with a fastball. Though Dempster always maintained he didn't mean it, he finally came clean earlier this month.

Dallas Braden

Dallas Braden made headlines after he yelled at A-Rod in the sixth inning of a game between the Yankees and Oakland Athletics. As Rodriguez came off the field, he ran across the mound to which Braden yelled "get off my mound." In his next start, Braden threw a perfect game.
