Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Josh Donaldson was forced to leave Wednesday's game against the New York Yankees after jamming his thumb.

Donaldson was in visible pain after being sawed off by an inside CC Sabathia pitch during the sixth inning, just a short while after he and manager John Gibbons engaged in a heated exchange in the dugout.

Donaldson, who was hitless on the day with two strikeouts and a run scored, was batting out of the designated hitter spot Wednesday.

Following Toronto's 7-4 win, he expressed optimism he'll be able to play in Friday's game in Cleveland. He's currently listed as day to day.
