The Miami Marlins will skip right-hander Jose Fernandez's next start, which was scheduled for Sunday against Chris Sale and the Chicago White Sox.

Fernandez will miss the outing in order to stay within an innings range, according to MLB.com's Joe Frisaro.

The 24-year-old Marlins ace underwent Tommy John surgery in May of 2014, and returned to throw 64 2/3 innings last season.

He's currently pitched 137 2/3 innings during his current campaign, the most of his career aside from his rookie year when he tossed 172 2/3.

The two-time All-Star is 12-6 with a 2.81 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and a National League-leading 12.9 strikeout-per-nine-inning rate among starters.

Right-hander Tom Koehler will make the start in place of Fernandez.
