Angels' Lincecum accepts Triple-A assignment

Former Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum has accepted a minor-league assignment after being designated by the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday, the team announced.

Lincecum will report to the Angels' Triple-A affiliate, the Salt Lake Bees.

Lincecum signed a one-year, $2.5-million deal with the Angels in May following a long rehab from hip surgery that bled into the early part of this season. The 32-year-old posted a 2.65 ERA in three rehab starts for Salt Lake after signing his contract, but things quickly went south once he reached the majors.

In nine starts for the Angels, Lincecum posted a 9.16 ERA and 2.37 WHIP, while allowing 2.6 home runs per nine innings pitched. The Seattle Mariners tagged Lincecum for six runs on nine hits in his most recent outing.

"He hasn't progressed from his first couple starts," Angels manger Mike Scioscia told reporters after Lincecum was DFA'd. "He's regressed."

Lincecum won a pair of Cy Young Awards and three World Series championships during his nine-year tenure with the San Francisco Giants.
