Angels' Tim Lincecum: Designated for assignment

Lincecum was designated for assignment by the Angels on Saturday, Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com reports.

Analysis:

The writing was on the wall -- manager Mike Scioscia would not commit to Lincecum making another start after another poor outing Friday -- and the Angels went ahead and made a move Saturday. He pitched his way off the roster after just nine starts, failing to turn in a quality start in any of the subsequent eight outings following his Angels debut. Lincecum will now be subjected to waivers, and if he goes unclaimed, he can opt for free agency.
