Nationals' Ryan Zimmerman: Placed on disabled list

Zimmerman was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a left wrist contusion.

Analysis:

Zimmerman sat out the last four games and apparently will require more time to recover from the bruise on his hand, so the Nationals decided to place him on the disabled list to free up a roster spot. Brian Goodwin will take Zimmerman's place on the roster, and Clint Robinson and Daniel Murphy figure to fill in at first base.
