Toronto Blue Jays right fielder Jose Bautista is awaiting MRI results after banging his left knee in an awkward tumble Tuesday at Rogers Centre, according to manager John Gibbons, who said a stint on the disabled list is a "possibility" for the 35-year-old.

Bautista banged his knee on the turf after tripping as he readied to unload a throw on a Kevin Kiermaier single in the third inning of Tuesday's 9-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. He was omitted from the lineup for Wednesday's series finale, with Michael Saunders getting the start in right field and Darwin Barney making his fourth start of the campaign in left.

Bautista rejoined the Blue Jays on July 25 after missing more than five weeks with a hyperextended toe.

If he does require a trip to the disabled list, the Blue Jays will likely recall Junior Lake from Triple-A Buffalo to take his spot on the active roster, according to Sportsnet's Shi Davidi.

Since returning to Toronto's lineup a few weeks ago, Bautista has struggled at the plate, going just 11-for-58 (.190) with three homers, three doubles, and a 20.3 percent strikeout rate in 15 games. On the season, the six-time All-Star and impending free agent owns a .793 OPS - his lowest since 2009 - with 15 home runs through 80 contests.
