Giants' Jake Peavy: Strikes out seven in abbreviated stint Saturday

Peavy didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 5-3 victory over the Nationals, surrendering three earned runs on five hits and a walk over four innings. He struck out seven.

Analysis:

The veteran righty tallied his second-best strikeout total of the season, notching 12 swinging strikes over his four frames. Peavy nevertheless turned in his shortest outing since June 29 due to having thrown 74 pitches over his relatively brief time on the mound. The 35-year-old has only one victory in his last six starts and will try to get back in the win column in a rematch against the Nationals next Friday.
