With less than 48 hours to go before this year's trade frenzy comes to a close, the busy San Diego Padres are reportedly expanding their list of available players to include high-priced slugger Matt Kemp.

Kemp is the latest player being shopped by the Padres, sources told Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, with the Atlanta Braves reportedly "pretty hot" on acquiring the 31-year-old outfielder. Multiple reports early Saturday evening indicated a possible swap of Kemp for suspended outfielder Hector Olivera was getting close.

Olivera, who was traded to Atlanta last July, barely two months after landing a six-year, $62.5-million deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers, owns a .674 OPS in 30 games in the big leagues, and appeared in only six contests this year before landing an 82-game suspension for an alleged domestic incident.

Since the beginning of June, San Diego's traded away James Shields, James Loney, Fernando Rodney, Drew Pomeranz, Andrew Cashner, and Melvin Upton Jr. in deals mostly netting the club prospects in return.

Rosenthal adds the Padres will most certainly absorb money in any deal involving Kemp, who's owed $21.75 million per season over the next three years. The Dodgers, with whom Kemp spent the first nine seasons of his career, agreed to pay down $3.5 million in annual salary.

Kemp's in the midst of a typically productive campaign offensively, posting a .774 OPS with 23 homers and 24 doubles in 100 games. Plagued by injuries during his time in Los Angeles, Kemp's averaged 152 games per year since 2014, while making a league-leading 409 plate appearances this season.

On Friday, San Diego dealt Cashner to the Marlins in a blockbuster seven-player trade that secured the club power-hitting prospect Josh Naylor and reliever Carter Capps, who's recovering from Tommy John surgery.
