Reds' Tony Cingrani: Abandoning slider

Cingrani has come pretty close to abandoning his slider since the beginning of June, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports, throwing it just 3.7 percent of the time.

Analysis:

In its place, Cingrani instead is throwing a splitter that's roughly five mph slower than his fastball, but he's throwing that just five percent of the time. Otherwise he's mostly just throwing his fastball, with good results -- a 2.08 ERA over his last 20 appearances, beginning June 1.
