New York Mets outfielder Juan Lagares will undergo surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left thumb and is set to miss an estimated six weeks, manager Terry Collins told reporters Friday, according to James Wagner of the New York Times.

The Mets have recalled outfielder Brandon Nimmo from Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding roster move.

Lagares suffered the initial injury making a diving catch on a line drive by Miami Marlins outfielder Ichiro Suzuki in early June. Lagares initially planned to play through the tear, however the Mets later placed him on the 15-day disabled list before opting for the surgery.

The 27-year-old center fielder is slashing .243/.303/.386 in 70 games this season.
