The Miami Marlins are desperate to add starting pitching and are reportedly pushing hard to finalize a trade for San Diego Padres right-hander Andrew Cashner involving multiple prospects, according to Joe Frisaro of MLB.com.

Cashner has been one of the most talked-about arms leading into the Aug. 1 non-waiver trade deadline. The 29-year-old impending free agent is 4-7 with a 4.76 ERA and 1.39 WHIP across 16 starts. He allowed a season-high eight runs in a start July 8, but owns a 2.55 ERA across his last three outings since.

Earlier Thursday it was reported that the Marlins and Texas Rangers are the current front-runners to land the Cashner, sources told Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

The Baltimore Orioles, San Francisco Giants and Toronto Blue Jays have also been linked to Cashner this week.
