Report: D-Backs' Miller drawing interest on trade market

Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Shelby Miller is reportedly drawing interest from several teams despite a disastrous first season in the desert, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

Miller, who was acquired over the winter in a blockbuster trade with Atlanta, hasn't been close to what the Diamondbacks expected when they made the deal. The 25-year-old owns a 7.14 ERA and 1.745 WHIP in 14 starts while allowing 11.9 hits per nine innings. He spent some time on the disabled list earlier this year with a finger issue, and has been pitching in Triple-A since July 6.

It's unclear what teams may be interested in acquiring Miller or what the asking price may be. Despite his woeful season, the idea of trading for him might not be so far-fetched considering he posted a 3.02 ERA, struck out 171 batters, and was an All-Star for the first time just one year ago. He could represent a cheaper option as the price for starting pitching increases for teams willing to be patient and help him work through his struggles.

Miller was initially reported to be available in trade talks July 24.

Miller's not the only Diamondbacks pitcher to hear his name in trade rumors Thursday, as reports surfaced earlier in the day that the team may be close to trading reliever Daniel Hudson.
