The streak is over for Jeurys Familia.

The New York Mets closer blew his first regular-season save in almost a year after allowing two runs in the ninth inning Wednesday to the St. Louis Cardinals in a 5-4 loss.

Familia entered the game having converted 52 straight opportunities - the third longest streak in major-league history. He allowed two runs off two hits and a pair of walks to take the blown save and the loss.

"I know tomorrow is a new day," Familia told reporters. "I can do better. I can get another opportunity and do a good job."

The right-hander had been playing with fire as of late. He navigated through a bases-loaded jam last week courtesy of a game-ending double play to record his 49th straight save. Familia became the fourth pitcher in history to convert 50 consecutive saves Friday.

The streak only covered the regular season as Familia was charged with three blown saves during the World Series.
