Cardinals' Jhonny Peralta: Hopes to swing bat in coming days

Peralta (thumb) said Saturday that he hopes to be cleared to swing a bat in the next day or two, Jim Hayes of FOX Sports Midwest reports.

Analysis:

A thumb ligament issue forced Peralta back to the DL this week, but the injury is unrelated to the one he suffered in spring training. It sounds like Peralta is confident this will ultimately prove a minor setback, but a return timetable probably won't take shape until he successfully ramps up his activity and gets close to a rehab assignment.
