Former All-Star closer Joe Nathan will join the Chicago Cubs on Sunday against the Milwaukee Brewers, as the reliever was called up from Triple-A Iowa Saturday.

Nathan hasn't pitched in MLB since April 6, 2015 with the Detroit Tigers, though after recently completing a rehab assignment in the Cubs' minor-league system following Tommy John surgery, Chicago skipper Joe Maddon is optimistic about the 41-year-old's return.

"Velocity is solid and the break has gotten better on the breaking ball," Cubs skipper Joe Maddon told MLB.com's Carrie Muskat. "Sounds like he's ready to rock and roll."

The Cubs signed Nathan to a one-year deal in May.
