The Texas Rangers have claimed infielder Matt Duffy off waivers from the Houston Astros.
Duffy was designated for assignment on July 16 by Houston in a corresponding move following the signing of Cuban free agent Yulieski Gurriel.
The 27-year-old has been used sparingly by the Astros over the last two seasons, making a combined 12 plate appearances from 2015 to 2016 and recording three hits and three RBIs. In 266 at-bats with Triple-A Fresno this season, the corner infielder is slashing .226/.303/.350.
