With the Aug. 1 non-waiver trade deadline just two days away, one of the Oakland Athletics' biggest trade chips is heading to the disabled list.

The Athletics placed left-hander Rich Hill on the DL on Saturday, retroactive to July 20, with a blister on his left hand.

Hill was scratched from his scheduled start Sunday after throwing a 60-pitch bullpen session Friday where he said his finger began to feel "hot," according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.

The 36-year-old veteran southpaw left his last start on July 17 against the Toronto Blue Jays because of the blister after throwing just five pitches.

Hill's been a popular topic of discussion on the trade market as of late, with the Blue Jays acknowledging interest in his services and reportedly joined in pursuit by the Los Angeles Dodgers, Texas Rangers, and Baltimore Orioles.

Since resurfacing on the MLB scene with the Boston Red Sox last season, Hill's compiled an 11-4 record with a 2.06 ERA across 105 innings.

He's owed the remainder of his $6-million salary on a one-year deal he signed with the Athletics in the offseason.
