Report: Cubs 'strong' among teams chasing Chapman
The end to Aroldis Chapman's time in the Bronx appears to be drawing ever closer.
After reports Saturday suggested the New York Yankees were telling clubs a trade was close, the Chicago Cubs are reportedly "strong in the mix" to land the All-Star closer, sources told Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.
The Cubs and Yankees have been linked to reports involving Chapman and bullpen-mate Andrew Miller for several weeks thanks to the Cubs' urgent need to upgrade their bullpen as well as an array of top prospects to send to New York in return. The Yankees are apparently enamored by shortstop prospect Gleyber Torres, the Cubs' No. 1 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, per ESPN's Buster Olney.
The Giants, Dodgers, Nationals, and possibly Indians have also been gunning to acquire Chapman, sources told Rosenthal. Young Nationals right-hander Joe Ross is apparently a Yankees target, though grabbing him as a return for renting Chapman appears unlikely, according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports.

The Giants may not be in the best position to land the 28-year-old, however, as their talks with the Yankees have reportedly dried up, according to Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle.
Chapman owns a 2.01 ERA and 20 saves with the Yankees this season, and will be a free agent at year's end.
