Jake Peavy almost made it through his career without giving up a home run to David Ortiz.

Then in the fourth inning, the San Francisco Giants hurler tossed up a muffin to his former teammate that's still going.

“He’s a year too late if you ask me,” Peavy said jokingly of Ortiz's decision to retire. “I’d have loved to play that game without him tonight.”

Although Peavy didn't get any run support, with one swing of the bat Ortiz provided three-quarters of the Boston Red Sox offense with a three-run blast that traveled 442 feet in a 4-0 win on Tuesday night.

But Peavy doesn't hold any hard feelings towards Ortiz, his teammate in 2013 and 2014. He went on to say MLB won't be the same when the legendary slugger finally hangs up his spikes for good.

"David is as big-time a player as anybody I've ever played with," Peavy said. "He's a special type talent, and when he's gone, the game will have a void in it.

"It wasn't fun facing him tonight," he added. "Maybe we can offer him some crazy deal to make him come out west next year and find a place for him to play in a National League game."
