Hunter Harvey, the Baltimore Orioles' No. 1 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, will undergo Tommy John surgery July 26, the team announced Thursday.

The surgery will be performed by Dr. Donald D'Alessandro in Charlotte, N.C.

Harvey's most recent start, with Aberdeen in the short-season New York-Penn League, ended after just 1 1/3 innings. He left with what the team called a recurrence of his flexor mass strain. The 21-year-old was examined by Dr. James Andrews earlier this week, Orioles manager Buck Showalter told MASN's Rich Dubroff on Tuesday.

Since being selected 22nd overall by the Orioles in 2013 Harvey's brief professional career has been beset by injury woes. A fractured shin and strained flexor mass sidelined him for the entirety of 2015, and he experienced elbow discomfort in September that also prompted a visit to Dr. Andrews. His return this season was delayed when he had to undergo surgery to repair a sports hernia in May.

Harvey posted a 2.13 ERA and 18 strikeouts in five appearances this season across two levels.
