Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig, the subject of increased trade rumors ahead of next week's deadline, was removed from Thursday's game against the Washington Nationals during the seventh inning after experiencing right hamstring tightness.

Replays showed Puig grabbing near his hamstring after running out a ground ball hit to third baseman Anthony Rendon, and he was replaced by Scott Van Slyke prior to taking his position in the bottom half of the inning. Puig previously missed about three weeks in June because of a strained left hamstring.

Thursday's exit comes on the heels of growing speculation the Dodgers could deal Puig prior to the Aug. 1 non-waiver deadline. Earlier this week, sources told Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports the injury-ravaged club is opening to trading the struggling Cuban, who's hitting just .256/.318/.378 with seven homers in 78 games this season.

Once considered among the most talented players in baseball, Puig's performance has suffered over the last two seasons amid injuries and questions regarding his presence in the clubhouse. Those concerns aside, the 25-year-old right fielder remains a skilled defender who possesses a mix of power and speed, and is under team control through the next two seasons at a total of $17 million.
