Diamondbacks' Zack Greinke: Targeting July 25 return

Greinke (oblique) played catch Thursday from 60 feet and the team is targeting a return for July 25-26 against the Brewers, the Arizona Republic's Nick Piecoro reports.

Analysis:

He has finally resumed throwing, albeit only for eight minutes from 60 feet, but the fact that the team is openly targeting a return before the end of the month is encouraging. The Diamondbacks' rotation is in rough shape, as Shelby Miller was optioned to Triple-A earlier in the week and Rubby De La Rosa (elbow) has not yet progressed to throwing a bullpen session, so they could use Greinke back as soon as possible. A Monday start in Milwaukee on July 25 sounds like the best-case scenario for Greinke's return to the big league rotation.
