Report: Rangers' pitching search includes Cashner, Miller

Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

Texas Rangers general manager Jon Daniels is expected to be one of the most active executives leading up to the non-waiver trade deadline.

Eager to add to his pitching staff, Daniels has cast a wide net that includes starters and relievers from both the American and National League.

The Rangers have been involved in ongoing talks regarding Tampa Bay Rays starter Matt Moore, but now comes word the teams have also talked about fellow starters Drew Smyly and Jake Odorizzi, but Chris Archer has not been discussed, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reported Sunday.

Pitcher ERA IP SO WHIP
Cashner 5.05 67.2 53 1.48
Odorizzi 4.47 104.2 98 1.27
Smyly 5.47 100.1 108 1.32
Moore 4.33 116.1 98 1.30
Miller 1.37 39.1 69 0.71

Daniels has also been targeting San Diego Padres right-hander Andrew Cashner, according to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, who notes New York Yankees All-Star reliever Andrew Miller is on the radar. It's believed the Rangers' priority is addressing the rotation first.

Texas enters play Sunday with the best record in the American League and a 4 1/2-game division lead over the Houston Astros.
