Drew Storen's brief and rocky tenure in Toronto has come to an end, as the Blue Jays announced Sunday they have designated the right-hander for assignment.

The Blue Jays will now have 10 days to trade, release, or outright Storen to the minors. They'll be on the hook for the remainder of his $8.375-million salary unless another team trades for him.

Storen was acquired from the Washington Nationals for Ben Revere over the winter in hopes he'd compete with Roberto Osuna for the closer's job and form half of a lethal back end of the bullpen. Instead, the 28-year-old struggled to get batters out, posting a career-high 6.21 ERA and 1.59 WHIP while allowing over 11 hits per nine innings pitched.

His ineffectiveness as a set-up man early in the season pushed him into a mop-up role, as Storen pitched just 16 innings between June 1 and Sunday's transaction.

Storen owns a 3.31 career ERA and 98 saves over seven seasons with the Blue Jays and Nationals. He saved a career-high 29 games for the Nats in 2015.

Right-hander Ryan Tepera was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move.
