Major League Baseball is holding off on a ruling relating to the sexual assault allegations against Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Jung Ho Kang until police have completed their investigation.

Any potential discipline will wait until Chicago police finish gathering information, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Stephen J. Nesbitt.

"We are aware of the situation and are working with law enforcement,” commissioner Rob Manfred told reporters prior to the All-Star Game in San Diego. “We will make a decision when we have sufficient facts as to whether application of, for example, the administrative leave provisions in the new policy are applicable.”

Kang is being investigated for a sexual assault involving a 23-year-old woman during the Pirates' trip to Chicago in June. She claims he gave her an alcoholic drink in his hotel room that rendered her unconscious.

No criminal charges have been filed, and Kang has played five games since the news broke July 5.

"There is a certain amount of work that has to be done by law enforcement - and can only be done by law enforcement - before we can wade into those waters,” Manfred said.
