N.Y. tabloid compares Murphy's success to Bambino curse

The New York Mets hate when Daniel Murphy comes to town.

In 12 games against his former team, the Washington Nationals' second baseman is pounding the Mets, and he did it again with a four-RBI performance on Saturday.

Needless to say, the New York Post noticed that the Mets might have cursed themselves in the same way the Boston Red Sox did back in the day.

The tabloid is in reference to The Curse of the Bambino, a superstition spurred by the Red Sox after they sold Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees. Boston then went 86 years without winning a World Series.

Without it even being close, Murphy's best numbers this season come against the Mets. In 12 games, he owns a .438/.462/.875 slash line, a 1.337 OPS with six homers and 19 runs driven in.

Fortunately for the Mets, after Sunday, they get a break from Murphy as they don't see the Nationals again until September, when they have two three-game sets in the first two weeks of the month.
