Giants' Denard Span: Goes hitless in return to lineup Friday

Span (neck) returned to the starting lineup Friday, going 0-for-5 in a win over the Diamondbacks.

Analysis:

It was surprising that the Giants opted to bring Span back just three games before the All-Star break, and even more surprising that they elected to start him against a lefty. He must have felt completely healthy, which is a good sign for those who own him in fantasy. Span has been a mild disappointment with his new club, slashing just .249/.330/.346 in the first half of the season. If it weren't for the fact that he bats atop the Giants' lineup, it would be tough rostering him in all but the deepest leagues.
