Nats GM gets in screaming match with ump over slide rule
MLB's new slide rule isn't sitting well with Washington Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo.
Jayson Werth was called on the Utley Rule in the Nationals' 9-7 loss to the New York Mets, and following the game, Rizzo got into it with the umpiring crew in the tunnels of Citi Field.
"You blew it," Rizzo yelled at second base umpire Jim Joyce, according to Christian Red of the New York Daily News.
The video was reviewed because Werth was involved in a similar slide in the fifth that wasn't called. He was deemed to have violated the rule, meaning Daniel Murphy was automatically out at first base. Bryce Harper then struck out to end the game.

At one point, Joyce shouted at Rizzo to identify himself, apparently not knowing he was the Nationals general manager. The executive made sure he was loud and clear when announcing his position.
"I don't need it out there either. You want to yell? Yell," Rizzo said. "I'm right here."
The rule has been in place since the beginning of the season, months after Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Chase Utley trucked Ruben Tejada during the NLDS, breaking the shortstop's leg.
