Miller: 'The Yankees want to win'

Whatever trade rumors might be floating around the New York Yankees due to the fact they sit fourth in the division, Andrew Miller is a believer in what the club is doing.

And based on what the left-hander says, New York isn't jumping ship just yet.

“The Yankees want to win,” Miller told reporters Monday. “What they say is what they mean. The people that make the decisions, all they know is winning. That’s a big reason I signed there.

“That’s their plan until the absolute last minute.”

Miller is without a doubt one of the Yankees' most sparkling trade chips. In his second season wearing pinstripes, Miller owns a 1.37 ERA in 39 1/3 innings, striking out 69 hitters in the process.

But the Yankees made it clear they don't plan on trading Miller, and he hasn't heard otherwise, either.

“I don’t know where it came from but it’s not going away,” Miller said. “I signed with the Yankees to play for the Yankees. Winning a World Series there would be as good as it gets. That’s the goal until further notice.”

Ever since converting to a full-time bullpen arm in 2012, Miller has been dynamite. In five seasons he owns a 2.23 ERA in 234 1/3 innings pitched.
