Blue Jays' Sanchez added to AL All-Star roster

Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Aaron Sanchez may not have been able to earn a win against the Detroit Tigers on Saturday afternoon, but the 24-year-old received some wonderful news minutes after his team's seven-game winning streak ended with a 3-2 loss.

Sanchez has been added to the American League All-Star team as a replacement for injured Boston Red Sox closer Craig Kimbrel, according to multiple reports.

"I think he's just scratching the surface, I really do," manager John Gibbons told reporters when asked about Sanchez's addition to the Midsummer Classic.

This won't be the first time Sanchez has participated at an All-Star game at Petco Park in San Diego, either. The last time he made an All-Star team was in high school and the game was played at Petco.

'"Pretty surreal," the pitcher said when asked about being named to the roster. "I'm going to go and soak in the moment. Hopefully I do get the chance to pitch in the All-Star game."

Because he'd potentially pitch in the game on two days rest, he may not see much action, although he believes he'll be ready to go.

"I think that's enough time for me to be ready," he explained.

Sanchez has been lights out for the Blue Jays so far this season, pitching to a 9-1 record with a 2.97 ERA in 18 starts.

The addition of Sanchez to the roster gives the Blue Jays five representatives on the AL squad, as he joins teammates Josh Donaldson, Edwin Encarnacion, Michael Saunders, and Marco Estrada.
