Cubs' Chris Coghlan: Placed on 15-day disabled list on Sunday

Coghlan (ribs) was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Sunday, Bruce Levine of 670 The Score reports.

Analysis:

Coghlan ended up leaving Saturday's game against the Mets in the fourth inning due to right rib cage soreness, and the Cubs quickly determined that he'd need some extended time off to heal up, since he had been dealing with some lingering discomfort for a few days. While the Cubs promoted 22-year-old Jeimer Candelario to take Coghlan's place on the 25-man roster, it's possible that utility man Ben Zobrist will be asked to cover Coghlan's portion of the corner-outfield platoon with Albert Almora.
