Padres' Andrew Cashner: Will come off DL to start Sunday

Cashner (neck) will come off the DL to start Sunday against the Yankees, MLB.com's AJ Cassavell reports.

Analysis:

He pitched three scoreless innings in a rehab start for High-A Lake Elsinore on Tuesday, and is apparently ready to return to the big league rotation. The Padres plan to slide Cashner in Sunday on normal rest and push Luis Perdomo back for another day. The team will either bump Erik Johnson from the rotation or go with a six-man rotation for a while -- a decision that has not yet been decided. Cashner threw just 38 pitches in Tuesday's rehab start and another 12 in the bullpen, so he will likely be on a pitch count Sunday, making him a poor option in daily formats.
