Syndergaard is sick of talking about bone spurs

Warning: Major "Game of Thrones" spoiler below.

New York Mets right-hander Noah Syndergaard dipped his hand into the pop culture GIF jar Wednesday to illustrate how annoyed he and teammate Steven Matz have become over discussing the bone spurs in their pitching elbows.

Syndergaard's analogy isn't hard to comprehend, regardless of whether you're a Thrones enthusiast or not. After a week of back-and-forth debate on the health of his precarious elbow, "Thor" is ready to talk about other things. The season finale of "Game of Thrones" appears to be one of them.

Earlier this week, after lasting just three innings in a start against the Washington Nationals, Syndergaard emphatically shot down a report that claimed he was trying to pitch with a bone spur.

Syndergaard's denial was later contradicted by general manager Sandy Alderson, who said the Mets' flamethrower is indeed dealing with an "insignificant" bone spur in his right elbow. Alderson added that Syndergaard won't require offseason surgery and will continue taking his normal turn in the rotation.

"I didn't want to make it sound like I was making an excuse for my poor performance the other night," Syndergaard explained Wednesday on the Boomer and Carton Show. "As long as I'm staying on my anti-inflammatories my elbow is feeling great."

Matz's bone spur, meanwhile, is said to be more bothersome than Syndergaard's, though he's also been advised to continue pitching and is apparently not in danger of damaging it any further.
