Royals' Yordano Ventura: Loses to Cardinals in return from suspension

Ventura (6-5) surrendered seven runs on seven hits and three walks with four strikeouts over 5.1 innings in a loss Tuesday to the Cardinals.

Analysis:

Ventura induced nine groundouts and 11 swinging strikes, but he just didn't have his control in his return from an eight-game suspension for his role in a brawl with the Orioles back in early June. He threw 40 balls in 98 pitches and managed just 13 first-pitch strikes to 27 batters. While it would be convenient to blame this on rustiness, Ventura hasn't showed any control all year, as his 5.00 ERA can be largely blamed on an atrocious 4.2 BB/9.
