Ben Zobrist and Javier Baez are generally considered the Chicago Cubs' most versatile players, but Travis Wood deserves some credit, too, after his performance in Tuesday's 15-inning marathon with the Cincinnati Reds.

Wood, who hadn't played a position other than pitcher since debuting with the Cubs in 2010, was sent to left field as part of a double-switch in the bottom of the 13th, then ended up recording the final four outs of his club's 7-2 victory from the mound.

"It was a lot of fun," Wood told reporters. "I would've liked to have recorded an out (from the field), you know, showcase some talents out there, because I've tried to get (manager) Joe (Maddon) to put me out there all year long, (maybe) give me a couple starts."

If Maddon is inclined to use a pitcher in the field moving forward, though, Wood isn't his only option, as Spencer Patton and Pedro Strop both saw some time in left field in Tuesday's four-hour, 43-minute affair at Great American Ball Park.
