Examinations confirmed no fractures and concussion tests came back negative on the Cuban.

During Monday's contest against the Kansas City Royals, Diaz lunged at an 89 mph offering from pitcher Joakim Soria which took an odd spin off Diaz's bat and sailed into his face.

Diaz was immediately looked at by a trainer and forced to leave the game.

The 25-year-old rookie has been a surprisingly big part of the Cardinals lineup, hitting .316/.374/.523 with 10 home runs, 21 doubles, and 40 RBIs

Greg Garcia was slotted into the Cardinals lineup at shortstop Tuesday against Kansas City.
